Bill Mann asked:

Whether in the real world or in World of Warcraft, speed and precision of action are the secrets to winning in hand to hand (or Player versus Player) combat. Every fraction of a second counts, and if you make a mistake, it could be all over. Let’s face it, swinging a little piece of plastic madly across your desk is not the fastest or most precise way to get things done. This is where macros come into the picture for gamers.

So what is a macro? In WoW, a macro is a set of commands that correspond to commands you could give with the mouse and keyboard. A command in a macro might look like this:

/cast Faerie Fire

Not surprisingly, this is a command to cast the Faerie Fire spell. A macro consists of one or more commands that are grouped together and attached to a button on one of the toolbars. When you click on the button, the macro runs, and executes all the commands.

Although there are some gotchas and details to look out for, a macro can execute most of the commands and actions you would normally do using the mouse and the keyboard. This ability to execute a long string of commands quickly and precisely when you click a single button is what makes macros so important for PvP combat.

Until you’ve done some, you have no idea how intense player versus player action can get. If you’re a fraction too slow with the mouse, or accidentally click the wrong button, you’re probably dead before you know what happened to you. The ability to execute a full attack sequence, or perform some other complex set of actions with a single mouse click can make all the difference in a tough battle.

Jeffrey Miller asked:

Are you serious about developing powerful, efficient, and effective self defense skills? Do you want to be capable of quick, decisive action?

If so, then you must be able to do things that are outside of what your attacker is used to seeing. And, this includes how you take the fight to him!

The focus of this article is to present a list of body weapons that will significantly increase your ability to defend yourself. And, at the same time, give you the ability to do more than throw the same punches and kicks that he will already be waiting for.

This is a very important reality of self protection to keep in mind – and that’s the truth that, if he has any kind of fight experience whatsoever, then he will already be watching for the same strikes and kicks that most people will typically throw.

Do you understand that?

Do you get the significance of that reality?

It means that you have to be able to think outside the box. And, thinking outside the box, as I teach it to my students, means more than just having a bunch of “tricky moves.”

To “think outside the box,” requires that you first understand, “the box.”

And, the box that I’m talking about here, is how he thinks about striking and what he’ll be watching for from you. It means that he’ll already be on the lookout for certain, common and predictable things that almost “everyone” does.

And, if you’re going to have any chance at all of getting out of there with the least amount of wear-and-tear on yourself, then you must be able to think, move, and act in ways that are VERY DIFFERENT from the average person!

And, while this article is about how to do that with your striking techniques, this strategy and training concept goes far beyond your striking skills to involve everything that you do.

That being said, here is a basic list of 16 body weapons that I give to my beginner students. The list changes as the new student progresses in skill and understanding, but for now, it provides a good model to convey what I mean by increasing your options and thinking outside the box.

The 16 Basic Body Weapons include:

Head Right Shoulder Left Shoulder Right Elbow Left Elbow Right Hand Left Hand Right Hand Fingers Left Hand Fingers Right Hip Left Hip Right Knee Left Knee Right Foot Left Foot Body-as-weapon (Torso)

self defense

Pete Kauffer asked:

Many times in a self-defense situation an attack is from the rear. Martial arts practitioners are taught how to defend themselves if placed in a rear choke. One type of choke an assailant can use involves their hands only. In this article we will show how to defend if grabbed by the neck with the hands.

An attack from behind can occur at anytime. It is very easy if someone is not looking in the direction of the assault. A choke can take many forms and render a person unconscious rather quickly if the air is cut off. If a victim is attacked from the rear by only the hands of the attacker, either on the shoulders or on the neck, an escape can be rather simple.

The victim should step forward with one foot and turn the shoulder of the less dominant arm into the attacker. Raise the less dominant arm to block the attackers arm and push it out of the way. This should release the attackers hands from the neck and place the defender in a position to use a martial arts technique for a counter attack.

Blocking with the less dominant arm leaves the dominant, more powerful arm available for defense. Using any of a number of martial arts techniques with full force can render the aggressor defenseless. It can also provide an escape opportunity. A punch to the nose or throat or driving a finger, or fingers, into the eyes will cause quite a bit of pain. A kick to the shins, knees or groin can put them on the ground creating an opening to get away.

Jack Krohn asked:

Have you ever accidentally hit your forearm or shin bone against a steel object like a pole, or a rail on a bed? Or have you ever accidentally bumped a coffee table with your shin bone? OUCH that hurts!

Well now you can take that same experience and carry a non lethal self defense weapon in your car, motorcycle, or purse. A steel telescopic baton can level the playing field in a hurry.

If you ever find yourself as a potential victim in a carjacking, assault, rape, theft or any situation where you are threatened or outnumbered the telescopic steel baton is the great equalizer.

HOW IT WORKS. The 8 inch steel shaft extends to 16, 21, or 26 inches with a flick of the wrist. The handle is covered in foam for easy griping. The unit comes with a nylon carrying bag. An optional ***** on LED light attachment is available. Once the shaft is extended the steel baton becomes a very unfriendly piece of equipment as far as the bad guys are concerned. One whack in the ribs, kneecap, arm or leg and the bad guys are headed for the hills.

WHO CAN USE IT. Virtually anyone who is alone night or day under any circumstances can use this simple device. In a parking lot after work or shopping the steel baton will level the field if you feel threatened. In your car, if you feel you are being carjacked. Almost anywhere you can be assaulted, the telescopic steel baton will give you a sense of confidence in a possibly threatening situation.
Chances are very good that you are reading this because in some way crime has touched your life or you want to be proactive and protect yourself, family, home, or business from the ravages of crime. That is the first step.
