Adrian Padeanu asked:

As you very well read from the first part of our article, Rio de Janeiro stands out from all of the other cities in the world with its plentiful of events that occur each and every month throughout the entire year. May is no exception whatsoever and with the help of this article we will continue to present other important events which we consider to be an eye grabber not only for locals but also for the thousands of tourists that pick Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as their vacation destination.

On the 24 of May, Mirian Stanescon-RORARNI will organize the “12th World Peace Crusade”. The objective of this great event which will be held by the gypsies in Brazil is to pay tribute to the Jews, native Indians, afro-descendents and of course, the gypsies; showing solidarity towards the unity among all people, regardless of belief, religion, social status, trying to obtain world peace, something that is crucial in today’s hectic world. The event is part of the celebrations of Saint Sara Kali Day which is the patron saint of the gypsies.

This show will start with an ecumenical gypsy mass – blessing, various shows, and exhibitions along with ethnic dances. Release of the Gypsy People’s primer, “The law in your hands”, which was written by Mirian Stanescon Batuli and produced by the Human Rights Department and supported by Ministry of Culture and SEPPIR – Celebration of National Gypsy Day. The venue for the event will be Parque Garota de Ipanema – Posto 7 – Rua Francisco Otaviano – Arpoado.

Between 25 and 29 of May 2010, the South American Federation of Krav Maga will organize the Lichtenfeld’s 100th Anniversary and 20 years of Krav Maga in Brazil. For this year, they will celebrate together two dates that represent a milestone in history: first, the centenary of the creator of Krav Maga, Imi Lichtenfeld; second, twenty years of the arrival of Krav Maga in Latin America.

From 30 May until 3 June this year, Sociedade Michelin de Partipações Indústria e Comércio Ltda. will organize the 2010 10th Challenge Bibendum in Rio de Janeiro. The theme for this edition is “rallying together towards a renaissance of road transport after the downturn”. The event will be held at Riocentro – GL Events Centro de Convenções – Av. Salvador Allende, 6.555 – Pavilhões 1, 2, 3 and 4 – Jacarepaguá. “Challenge Bibendum merges the forces that will drive the future of road mobility – sustainability and technology. This powerful combination is good business, and it’s what we’ve been doing for decades. Our technology has put us in the forefront of making transportation more sustainable, and it will continue to underpin the Chemicals success story”.

All things considered, if you have not planned your long deserved vacation for this year, you might take into consideration Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as it can be breathtaking not only in the days of the Carnival, but throughout the entire year as the list of events keeps getting longer with each passing month.

Jack Krohn asked:

Self defense is a growing problem in an ever more violent world. The majority of women, in fact, know their attackers. This puts them at an even greater disadvantage because they may not suspect that trouble is brewing. For them, women’s self defense products can be lifesaving. The key is in finding the best choices in self defense items.

There are a variety of pepper sprays for use as self defense weapons. Some of them are even better than the rest in that they are easily disguised. Some may have pepper sprays contained in a lipstick tube-shaped device. Other pepper sprays come in the form of rings and other jewelry. These types of self defense items make it easy to surprise an attacker.

Alarms may also be used as women’s self defense weapons. When an attacker hears a loud, shrill noise, he is more likely to back away and leave the scene. Personal alarms are also often disguised. Sometimes they take the shape of flashlights, and may also contain pepper sprays. Other personal alarms are small and sleek, but have a flashlight included in their design for women’s self defense. There are also personal alarms that are shaped like key chains or can be attached to key chains.

In many cases, the best self defense items women can use are stun guns. There is a large variety to choose. Many of the self defense products are small and easily disguised. One type of stun guns used for women’s self defense is made in the shape of cell phones. They carry charges of as high as 950,000 volts. The best of these stun guns have disabling pins so that they will be useless to the attacker if he grabs it away from the woman.

If a woman is still not satisfied with all these self defense weapons, tasers are a logical next step. After all, a stun gun is 85% effective but tasers are virtually 100% effective. With well made tasers, women’s self defense becomes a sure thing. Tasers will stop any aggressor, no matter how big or how crafty. What is more, tasers are good for up to 15 feet from the target. That means that the woman need not give the attacker the chance to take over her self defense weapons.

Since women often know their attackers, it is not unreasonable to consider that there might be times that women’s self defense products might be needed at home. While there are many uses for hidden spy cameras, women’s self defense is certainly one of them. For example, if a stalker is entering a woman’s home, the hidden spy camera can record the activity when she is gone. There are cameras that will record only when there are changes in the room, or others that will record at all times through a home computer.

Women’s self defense is much more reliable if self defense weapons are available. Getting the best ones depends on knowing the market and choosing wisely. It is important for women to know their own habits and preferences before buying women’s self defense products.

TL Kleban asked:

How safe are you everyday once you step outside the door of your home? Many people make the naive mistake thinking that nothing bad can happen to them but the reality is if you were walking to your car and were attacked, can you protect yourself? Do you have a plan for defense? Unfortunately, most people are not and if you are among them, be aware that you put yourself at risk every day.

The study of self-defense cannot be easily defined with quick, easy, and over simplistic solutions. It is more along the lines of being prepared when you encounter an attacker and nothing is more important to your preparation as studying your everyday environment for escape routes or anything else that can help you during your time of conflict.

Here are some ways for you to be prepared to protect yourself during your everyday life:

You should always prepare yourself for any and all environments. Take where you work for example. If you work from home, you need to think about how to protect yourself there or if you work in an office, are you safe on your way to your car? Plan out and review a few various what if scenarios as a way to prepare yourself if the situation arises. Spot and address any surrounding environmental conditions that are subject to frequent change. Once you know what to prepare for, you can go over how to adapt your self-defense techniques to situations such as a dark stairwell, a poorly lit parking lot or even in the snow. Carefully take note of your surroundings looking for things such as potential escape routes if you are ever attacked. It is very important for you to never take familiar settings for granted. If you are attacked somewhere familiar to you, what is your plan for escape? What will you do if your first escape route is blocked? You better have a secondary plan even if it is something as easy as buying enough time to call 911. The goal is to increase your odds of coming out of the altercation unharmed. Always know where potential weapons can be found in your environment. Your home has items such as kitchen knives or the fireplace poker for example. Your car is full of potential weapons like the tire iron, windshield scraper or something from a grocery bag. Often times, its the less obvious items that end up saving your life such as using your wedding ring to scratch the attacker’s face. Now that you know what you will use as a weapon, think about how you will use it as a weapon. Certain items like dishes, ashtrays or vases can be thrown at an attacker. Hot liquid can be thrown into the face of an attacker to buy you enough time for an escape. You basically need to do whatever it takes. The final thing you need to always remember is that as you are scanning your environment for potential weapons, your attacker will be doing the same thing as well. Always remember the urgency of the situation.

Tommy Hayes asked:

The U.S. Marine Corps has, like most elite military units in the world, developed its own unique style of hand to hand combat. The keys to fighting in a life and death situation are to improve reaction time, develop a “killer” instinct, and once the engagement begins, to not hesitate in the attack. Marines are trained through Basic and Advanced courses to hone their natural aggressions into a series of relentless and methodical attacks. The secret to success is, ironically, to master the control of the attack.

One way to master control is through endless repetitions of punching and kicking heavy bags and speed bags. There are no “easy ways out”. You must count your strikes to the bags in the hundreds and thousands until your mind literally becomes numb with the seemingly endless drone of numbers and by constantly consciously correcting your own technique. An important point to remember, is to stop training when fatigue sets in…the reason being, is that you fight the way you train. The reason you are doing repetitions is to actually force your muscles to strike in the most perfect way without having to think or having the luxury of preparing for an engagement, as when you are in a competition with judges and rules. When fatigue sets in, you tend to lower the defensive fist that is guarding your jaw and drop your punch as you draw it back from its full range of motion. You can punch and kick at 50% speed during practice, and I assure you, in the moment of trial, when you are moving faster than your mind can keep up with, your technique will be flawless and their resistance will be futile.

Another way to master control is to stymie the body’s desire to flood your system with adrenaline. Your body pumps adrenaline into your veins to give you a 125% strength for a short period of time to deal with threats; this is bad. You want to train your body to slowly dose your system with this God given Hulk transformer. By allowing your body to slowly inject adrenaline, you can maintain 105% strength over a much longer period of time and deal with multiple threats as they arise, instead of just the first threat that you are suddenly and unexpectedly faced with. You can control the adrenaline rush through practicing breathing techniques. Most people that first enter a sparring match in a classroom setting, actually hold their breath! I did it. I’ve seen countless others do it. The best way to overcome this odd natural quirk we all have, is to train with an experienced partner, someone who can pause for a moment and simply say, “breathe”. Also, you can go to the local bookstore and gloss over some books in the yoga or meditation section. You will be able to find countless breathing techniques that have been practiced and proven true throughout the history of mankind.

Yet another method to mastering control is through the quashing of ones own ego. There is always someone that is stronger, faster, and better trained; the key, then, is to better your opponent at the critical moment of confrontation. When I first trained with my instructor, he subtly and not so subtly, broke down my ego over a three month period. He didn’t do it because he needed to stoke the fires of his own ego, because he was devoid of that emotion. He broke down my fantasies that I was a super warrior because that is the greatest way to build confidence and ingrain a desire to relentlessly attack once the situation has reached an impasse.
