Unarmed self defense is a very important technique which can work any time and also give you self confidence to face an attack and counter it. Hand Techniques: Hands can be very effective in attacking the opponent. For unarmed defense the open hand strikes are considered far more damaging then punching. Punching is natural reaction towards an attack but it might take months for a normal perform to master the art of making good solid punch. Blows from the heel of the hand can be very forceful and hurting. Solar plexus, lower abdomen and ********* all make very good targets for this kind of punching. The karate type spear hand strike is also very effective. You just have to straighten your hand and press the fingers strongly together. This can produce very sharp and powerful strikes. Throat, eyes and the solar plexus are good targets for the spear hand. Our elbows are also a very tough part and can be jammed into the attackers ribs and also make him loosen his grips allowing you to make a hasty exit. Make sure you do not end up striking his forehead or back of the head with your punches as there are the hardest parts of the body and you will cause more harm to yourself than him.
